September viewpoints Grammar THE NEW SCHOOL FOR PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT | www.newschool.edu What is grammar, and how is it internalized in the mind? It consists of a symbolic code or neural connections together? It a sedimented trace of previous conversations or an innate human capacity is left? Our answers to these questions, of course, influence the way we go about teaching second languages. In this talk, Scott Thornbury checked some of the main models of grammar, often written as metaphors and discusses their implications for teaching practice. Thornbury is a faculty member at the New School MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) program and an author whose work has been published by Oxford University Press. Funded by the Department of English School of Language Studies at the New School for Public Engagement | www.newschool.edu and Oxford University Press.
